Back Your Team Event

Hello USS NIMITZ Association,

As you know we are planning on meeting up in October 2023 for this year’s reunion.

We are going to do something to inject a little extra fun into our reunion.

On your Arrival Day – We are going to have a “Back Your Team” event!

We are going to ask all who would like to participate by wearing some type of Sports gear for your Favorite Team on your arrival day in Tempe.

Yes, it will be different for some of our Members, as we have Members who arrive at various times and days, but that is OK and is to be expected.

They’re will be some who don’t follow sports teams at all and won’t take part in this event, which is OK too!

The Phoenix area is the perfect venue to break this event out, as it is clearly a Sports town.  With the Super Bowl having been played there this past year, and probably the most attended Golf Tournament known as the “Greatest Show on Grass” the Waste Management Phoenix Open which is played there every year, along with other sports teams like the Arizona Diamondbacks, Suns, Cardinals, Coyotes, and it currently hosts two NASCAR race weekends annually including the final Championship race since 2020.  NASCAR is going to wrap up Sunday, November 5th, 2023.   The MLB playoffs will be in full swing and the World Series will be right on the horizon as we are getting together, as World Series Game One is slated for October 28th. The Pro and College Football seasons will be well underway.   In addition, the regular season NBA and NHL seasons will have just started too!

So hopefully you can see, this is indeed the perfect venue to debut our Back Your Team” event.

If you are like me, it may be tough to pick a Team!

Once the Reunion opens up with the first General Meeting, our normal USS NIMITZ gear will be encouraged of course, but before that show your Team’s Colors in all their glory!

If anyone can think of a better name for this event – please share what you’re thinking, as this isn’t written in stone anywhere.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you in Tempe!
